|Exeter's Apple Events|
Sat 26 June 2021, 11:00am - 4:00pm
FLOW came into being as part of an artist residency which co-incided with the re-landscaping of Riverside Valley Park following substantial flood relief engineering works...
As well as being an orchard, FLOW brings together community, nature and the arts through seasonal celebrations and events, walks and cycle rides. Along the route as well as the insect home sculptures, you will find a hand carved bench...
Obviously we'd love to see you for the whole thing, but if you can only attend part, that's fine. See also https://floworchardexeter.uk/
Sat 18 & Sun 19 Jan'20 2pm-dusk
The FLOW: River Orchard project has been busy in recent years creating a Ribbon Orchard along the Exe. It's part of Exeter's enhanced flood defence scheme and also beautifies riverside walks and cycle paths. As well as trees there are also sculptures, benches, special pollenating beds and more besides.
The concept of a Ribbon Orchard was partly inspired by those found in Japan and the Japanese custom of celebrating the coming of the blossom in Spring. This year they'll be a Japanese theme to our celebration, so come and get involved: crafting lanterns, making special costumes and head gear, learning the Wassail songs and hearing the Storyteller's tales. Culminates at dusk with a procession and toast of the young trees, the river and our hopes for the year ahead. Bring outdoor clothes and wellies!
Fri 24 Jan'20 from 6:30pm
An evening of winter festivity, celebrating local food, community, music and dancing. Meet at Shillingford St George Village Hall for a short walk to the orchard. Bring warm clothes, waterproofs, appropriate footwear and pots and pans to make plenty of noise! Followed afterwards by our own tasty, seasonal soup made of veg grown here and then a lively evening of ceilidh dancing. Adults: £10 and under 12s go free.
Sun 26 Jan'20 2:30-4:30pm
Fancy learning how to prune apple trees? Want to make a difference in your local park? Join us on 26th Jan in Mincinglake Valley park orchard. Weekend 12-13 Oct'19 @ Sparrow Park
To tie in with Killerton's 2019 celebration of trees and woodlands and the centenary of the Forestry Commission, the festival will be celebrating orchards from the fruit down to the roots. It's a chance to celebrate fruit trees and the harvest, enjoy cider and apple juice and raise awareness of the conservation of traditional orchards.
This year the festival will feature woodland and wildlife organisations, children's activities and entertainment shows, craft workshops, family trails and live music. Visitors can bring their own apples to press into juice, witness the 200 year old press in action, try archery, browse the stalls in the orchard and taste great food from the Killerton Estate.
Sat 26 Oct'19 @ Mincinglake Valley Park
In the past there have been community apple days held to celebrate the orchard in Mincinglake Valley Park (an old poster from 2011 below). However, not in recent years. Following an initial meeting for residents to share ideas for restarting such events this date has been penciled in. Organised by Wellbeing Exeter, see poster (right) for details.

Sat 26 Jan'19 from 2pm @ Shillingford
Our wassail is an interpretation of the tradition of "blessing" the apple trees in an orchard, in order to drive away unwelcome spirits and to awaken the trees, thus ensuring a good crop. The trees are awakened by our noise and blessed with offerings of cider-soaked bread at their roots and decorations on their branches.
Do please bring something with which to make some noise - a pan lid and wooden spoon works well. Lana will provide some decorations and Jan will provide the bread.
Some apple based food and drink would be good to share - there will be a fire in the orchard on which to heat up our mulled cider.
Members, Friends & Family welcome. Assemble at the shed at 2pm.
Fri 18 & Sat 19 Jan 11am-11pm
